Ahmed Hanafy

As Dunsky’s lead on electricity sector transformation, Ahmed advises utilities, governments, system operators and other stakeholders across Canada and the U.S. on the critical technical, policy and regulatory changes facing the sector. Combining deep technical knowledge with strategic foresight, Ahmed’s work informs and shapes clients’ corporate strategy, system planning, project development and policy/regulatory efforts.
In addition to leading and contributing hundreds of mandates at Dunsky, his expertise builds on prior experiences working on emerging utility business models, renewable energy policy, energy markets and other related issues. Ahmed holds a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and an MBA from McGill University (Canada) as well as a Master’s degree in energy science from ETH Zurich (Switzerland).
Ahmed’s work is motivated by a desire to contribute to a sustainable energy future and a belief in the importance of the interplay of technology and policy/strategy as the catalyst for achieving that vision. Ahmed previously sat on the board of the Smart Grid Innovation Network (SGIN) until 2023 as well as serves in a voluntary capacity in various industry working groups and initiatives.
